Ainsley pinches at the bridge of her nose, trying to fight off the will to sleep. It's been so busy in the White House ever since the President had started to call meetings with a good deal of the legal staff, which meant they weren't available for the day-to-day and Ainsley's workload had dramatically increased. It meant that it was pushing ten at night and she's genuinely unsure if she should leave.
What she wants now, more than anything, is just a night off. The trouble is, if she's here, then she's tied to her phone and that means it's not really relaxing. What she needs is that hotel. Whatever strange logic governed it meant that no time had passed since she and Sam had accidentally wandered into it and right now, she loves the idea of a weekend away when all she does is sleep and relax and rest.
There are two problems in this.
The first being that she can't find a door that opens there and the second being that she doesn't want to go alone. She begins the long walk up from the Steampipe Trunk Distribution Venue towards Sam's office, not surprised to still find him at work. She raps her knuckles lightly on the glass separating his office from the bullpen and pokes her head in the door.
"Do you ever wonder what our lives would be like if we had normal 9 to 5 jobs?" she wonders, in place of an actual greeting. "I don't know what I'd do with myself, honestly."

Date: 2014-09-28 05:35 pm (UTC)"It's like I might have a social life or something," Sam says, sliding off his glasses and managing a weak smile at Ainsley. She's been working overtime too, though he doesn't know if he's aware of what has the legal department so busy. Best not to tell if she doesn't.

Date: 2014-09-29 01:03 am (UTC)It isn't such a bad idea, all told, and Sam wants to get away too. "Do you have some place in mind?"

Date: 2014-09-30 05:29 pm (UTC)"Oh, I definitely know the place." Sam hopes there's nobody around to overhear him talking about taking Ainsley to a hotel but he guesses if he has to own up to spending personal time with her, it won't be an issue. They don't even work in the same part of the building, much less the same department.
"Let's go get away for a little while. The break will be good."

Date: 2014-10-01 05:47 pm (UTC)She's relieved beyond measure that he doesn't look at her like she's crazy because with all the work she's had on her plate lately, she genuinely thinks that a mental break might be on the horizon if she's not careful. "Time stopped for you too, right?" she asks, stepping even further into the office so her words don't get overheard. Being crazy is one thing, but being perceived as crazy is harder to wash away. Reputation tends to stick, after all.

Date: 2014-10-01 10:47 pm (UTC)"It did, actually, which made our little jaunt into an alternate universe a lot less disturbing than it would normally be." Sam isn't one to really feel comfortable with temporary moments of insanity but it seems the last time he and Ainsley dropped off the map, there had been no lingering ill effects.
"It would, logically, be the best place to escape for a little while before diving headfirst back into the White House."

Date: 2014-10-03 06:47 pm (UTC)Sam doesn't want to admit that very soon, Ainsley is going to have a very big something dropped on her plate and it's going to be unavoidable. He wants her to have the illusion of an escape before dropping that on her.
"Well, let's get out of here before they realize we left. We don't want a secret service tail in here when the president eventually discovers this door and decides to use it."

Date: 2014-10-05 01:42 pm (UTC)Sam arches a brow and laughs but he steps through the door first. He thinks if they're discussing beauty, Ainsley should certainly be first over him in that particular conversation.
"It looks just the same as before."

Date: 2014-10-05 10:51 pm (UTC)In the past few months he's gotten to know Ainsley, Sam has learned that she makes leaps from A to C without so much as hopping on B between. Clearly the jump from relief to hunger is a logical one in her head and he chuckles a little.
"I think we can find an appropriate assortment of pastries to satisfy you while we spend the next several hours not thinking about work. The kitchen has to know your order by now, right?"

Date: 2014-10-07 01:57 am (UTC)"If you consider looking at a sandwich and drinking day-old coffee a healthy dinner, yes. That was the plan. I guess I should try to hit at least three of the four major food groups," Sam says. "So if you'd like to join me, I'd love to have dinner with you. My treat?"
It's almost like asking her out but it's still shrouded in friendship. Sam hasn't quite decided how to best approach moving things to something more.

Date: 2014-10-09 02:05 am (UTC)"Only the finest for White House counsel," Sam says. Truly, he's wanted to take Ainsley to dinner for a while but he doesn't dare do it in DC without someone finding out. He isn't ashamed to go out with her; on the contrary, he doesn't want her career to be affected because she's seen out with him.
"What are you in the mood for?"

Date: 2014-10-12 12:07 am (UTC)"Let's go full out. Steak, wine, a nice dessert? I'm sure someone in the hotel kitchen can whip that up for us."
If not, Sam can make it happen. If anyone deserves it, it's Ainsley, whom he feels is overworked and under-appreciated.

Date: 2014-10-14 03:50 pm (UTC)"See? I do learn," Sam says, holding doors open for her all the way to the hotel restaurant. When they arrive, he pulls out a chair for her before settling in his own.
"We'll just order everything that looks good and mix and match. Sound like a plan?"

Date: 2014-10-17 04:42 pm (UTC)"It usually ends with antacids and a birthday card to write but hopefully we'll have a better ending tonight," Sam teases. "I'm fond of shellfish. I suspect it has to do with growing up on the coast. Somehow, a big plate of oysters just makes me think of home. Charming, right?"

Date: 2014-10-22 05:25 pm (UTC)"I'm working on it," he promises. Sam tries not to think about just how appealing it would be for Ainsley to rub any part of him. It's probably a bad idea to get involved and yet...
"Ainsley? May I ask you a personal question?"
