Ainsley knew that it might be the wrong thing to do, bringing a friend (well, more like a brother, really) with her rather than the father of the child, but there was a small part of her that had to check to see that everything was fine before she could go to Shadow and tell him the news and ask him to come along with her. She knew that she was likely being paranoid, but she couldn't help it.

She had also had to trick Anthony into coming, telling him that she needed to talk and to meet her inside the lab. She just was on the other side of the lab and already in a gown, ready for Rollie's examination. "Thank you for doing this here," she said gratefully to Rollie. "And I'm really more than likely to be doing this again with Shadow, but I just need to see and make sure everything is okay. The last thing I want to do is worry him."

"I think he could handle it," says Rollie dryly, but he doesn't argue with the decision. As much as he's part of the extended family, this isn't any of his business. "It can't hurt to keep an eye on things anyway."

Anthony, for his part, had no idea how Ainsley had managed to talk him into this (or, more accurately, trick him into this), but here was there all the same, standing in as ironic dear friend and surrogate brother. He didn't look particularly happy about it, of course, standing in the background with his arms crossed over his chest and a particularly annoyed expression on his face, but he hadn't bolted yet. And that was saying something.

"You realize I'm going to have to come up with any number of ways to torture both you and your unborn child for dragging me to this," he warned Ainsley sourly.

Ainsley gestured to Anthony with a finger pointed behind her palm, mouthing, 'and he's another story' before smiling sweetly up at him. "Torture me all you want, but don't you dare torture your little niece-slash-nephew, since we're finding out today. Honestly, Anthony, I don't need my child in therapy sooner rather than later," she said politely with an edge of warning to it.

"And we're chronically short on therapists," says Rollie, "considering the amount of crazy on the island. You, missy, need to keep still for me. I don't exactly do this every day."

"Short on therapists?" Anthony snorted. "We have nearly as many of them as we do doctors. And as for you-" he turned his gaze on Ainsley again, "if this ill-advised child of yours ends up spending more time with a psychotherapist than not, you will have only yourself to blame."

Ainsley permitted movement in that she rolled her eyes and settled back on the bed so that Rollie wouldn't let loose another comment about her propensity to move. "Oh, honestly, Anthony. I doubt my strange rambling and erstwhile appetite are anything to drive a child to therapy," she commented as she started to roll up the hem of her shirt. "Unless that's a veiled comment about my politics, is that a comment about my politics?" she asked immediately of Rollie, tipping her head to look at him.

"Why don't we just pretend I'm a piece of medical equipment, if we're going to talk about politics," says Rollie. "Medical equipment has no opinion on the subject."

"It wasn't meant to be, but I can easily turn it into one, if you prefer," Anthony answered without missing a beat. "You are a conservative American having a child out of wedlock with an ex-convict. Your baby's childhood is going to be rife with even more hypocrisy than mine, and you know how I turned out." He offered the doctor a dry, almost sympathetic smile. "I'm afraid politics is difficult to avoid in present company. Besides, it helps me keep my mind off why we're here."

"He's so sweet," Ainsley deadpans at Rollie in regards to Anthony. She just lies still as much as possible, breathing out deeply as she rolls her eyes. "You can stop pretending you're not the closest thing I've ever had to a brother, you know," she snaps at Anthony. "It was cute the first time, but it's grown fairly exhausting ever since."
